Behind the Song

Everyone needs at least one good train song, right? It is about blind love’s reckless beginnings, only to eventually fall out of favor and begin anew.   Dave’s shuffle rhythm in this tune keeps us moving along the tracks.

Lyrics

Oh Love the affliction the tracks to my train ~ From the path there is no escapin’ ~ Fight as I might I cannot go against the grain ~ Ah to do so would just be fakin’ ~ A conspiracy of crows crowding skies above ~ I’m wonderin’ just what they’re plottin’ ~ Perching on the switch light top and telephone lines ~ Eavesdropping on my mind’s wanderings ~ Thinkin’ bout when you said I’d never get into your head ~ But the door to your heart was left open ~ So I walked right in with my bourbon and sin ~ You said I was the drug you need for copin’ ~ Yet time seems to erase the heart’s terrain; a face ~ My weathered features fading from your mind’s eye ~ Somewhere along the line I guess you felt you were doing time ~ And the only word you got left is just goodbye ~ So I keep on riding down life’s ramshackle track ~ No idea where I’m headed but I ain’t lookin’ back ~ Kept my wits about me, I’m as sharp as a tack ~ ‘Cept when it comes to love ~ Rollin’ through sunflowers and grapes on that vine ~ Day dreaming to the wheels hypno-rhythm time ~ I got no regrets out here on the line ~ ‘Cept when it comes to love ~ Sunset comes pourin’ through the boxcar door ~ Love departed long before we left that rail yard ~ Love and sun they come and go like so many times before ~ And my farewells always fall upon me so hard ~ Old love notes cast out the window of the train ~ Carried on the winds from the west that are blowin’ ~ As I watch them disappear, their ain’t nothing more clear ~ Our destination’s not for the knowin’ ~ So I keep on riding down life’s ramshackle track ~ No idea where I’m headed but I ain’t lookin’ back ~ I kept my wits about me, I’m as sharp as a tack ~ ‘Cept when it comes to love ~ Rollin’ through sunflowers; grapes on the vine ~ Day dreaming to the wheels hypno-rhythm time ~ I got no regrets out here on the line ~ ‘Cept when it comes to love
